ASSISTANT HOUSE MANAGERS
The State Theatre is looking for two Part-time Assistant House Managers to assist the Theater Manager in the operation of the front of house.

Assistant House Managers assist Theater Manager with the following:

• Supervises FOH paid staff
• Handles patrons’ needs during events
• Supervises operation of artists’ concessions during events
• Determines duties for FOH staff for events
• Conducts pre-show inspections of FOH physical appearance (lobbies, audience chamber, restrooms)
• Oversees receptions in lobbies or on stage
• Correct seating mistakes as necessary
• Provide prompt and professional responses to all audience inquiries
• Monitor events to ensure theatre policies regarding procedure and safety are followed
• Perform all pre- and post-performance tasks as directed by management
• Disperse any and all marketing materials as directed by management
• Assist all Theatre Manager in all emergency or safety procedures
• Assist Special Needs and Handicapped guests as necessary

Must work nights and weekends. Past experience in house management or direct customer service preferred. Hourly wage between $10-14 based on experience.

USHER

Management is looking for applicants with past experience in direct customer service as well as a wide array of hours of availability including days/nights/weekends/holidays. 

House Ushers are expected to offer the highest level of customer service possible to guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, patrons, and any other member of the public or administration they may encounter based on the House Ushers Policies and Procedures Handbook. House Ushers are also expected to carry out any job function management deems as appropriate and within the scope of caring and maintaining for the theatre, customer service, audience experience, pre-show prep, post-show breakdown, guest and staff safety/emergency response/security, etc.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Greet and Welcome all guests
• Direct all guests to their proper assigned seats
• Correct seating mistakes as necessary
• Provide prompt and professional responses to all audience inquiries
• Monitor and enforce theater patrons to ensure theater policies regarding procedure/safety are followed
• Perform all pre- and post-performance tasks as directed by management
• Disperse any and all marketing materials as directed by management
• Assist all theater guests in the event of an emergency to locate the nearest exit or escape route to safety
• Light maintenance and cleaning
• Assist special needs and handicapped guests as necessary

Physical/Mental Requirements Necessary:
• Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. waist high, including up and down stairs is required
• Ability to climb steps repeatedly is required
• Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines
• Ability to stand for long periods of time is required
• Work indoors/outdoors in a fast-paced, busy environment, with environmental conditions such as noise, dust, heights, dark/dim/absence of lighting, and smoke. Incumbents must have the ability to bend, stretch, reach, and kneel without restriction.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both written and oral forms
• Must have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
• Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance, adhering to theater standards
• Work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• High School Diploma or equivalent is required
• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States is required
• Experience with Two Way Radios is preferred

MARKETING/PR INTERNSHIP
The Marketing/PR intern will work closely with staff to implement marketing, promotions, public relations and audience development initiatives. The intern may also work on press releases, editing/proofing, flyer distribution, and other projects as needed. The internship requires a minimum of 15 hours each week between Mon-Fri (9-5:30pm).

Internships are unpaid, however, students may arrange to receive college credit.

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP
The State Theatre is seeking innovative graphic design interns to design and produce marketing materials for the State Theatre. The internship requires a minimum of 15 hours anytime between Mon-Fri (9-5:30pm).

Responsibilities:

  •  Design and produce promotional materials such as posters, flyers, advertisements, etc.

  •  Design web graphics for the State Theatre website and internet advertising

  •  Assist the Art Director with the creative workload


Requirements:

  •    Experience using QuarkXPress and Photoshop
  •    Knowledge of Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, and HTML a plus
  •    Familiar with a Mac

Internships are unpaid, however, students may arrange to receive college credit.

DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP
The State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, one of the country’s foremost performing arts presenters, seeks an energetic and self-motivated college student with strong writing and interpersonal skills for a fall internship (2-3 days per week) with the development department of the State Theatre.

Responsibilities and duties include assistance in:

  •  Writing letters of inquiry, gift acknowledgements, and proposals
  •  Researching individual, corporate, and foundation prospects and donors
  •  Coordinating various projects
  •  Maintaining and updating contact lists
 
Qualified candidates include those with a major in English, communications, public relations, marketing or related fields (although all majors interested in work experience may apply) and in good academic standing. Candidates must possess strong writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet is required.
 
Internships are unpaid, however, students may arrange to receive college credit. Additionally, interns will be compensated for expenses related to off-site responsibilities.

EDUCATION INTERNSHIP
Internships may focus on theater education management and/or assisting with the State Theatre’s programs for schools. Interns will be able to acquire practical theater education experience at one of the premiere non-profit theaters in the region.

Specific Responsibilities May Include:

  •  Provide administrative support as well as support for special events, workshops, and school shows
  •  Contribute to the development of the curriculum both in-house and in the schools
  •  Opportunities to research possible grant/funding opportunities for theater education work
 
Requirements:
  •  Strong commitment to theater and education 
  •  Enjoy working with others—interns need to interact successfully with a wide range of personalities including staff, artists, volunteers,  donors, and the general public; on the phone and in person 
  •  Demonstrate computer skills: familiarity with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets is preferable
  •  Commit to a consistent schedule for a minimum of one month
