Education Assistant:
The State Theatre in New Jersey, one of the country’s premier presenters of the performing arts, seeks an Education Assistant to support the company’s arts education programs. This full-time, permanent position is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for the arts and/or education who enjoys working in a creative environment that encourages ongoing personal and professional growth.

Job Description
Working under the supervision of the Vice President for Education, the Education Assistant serves as the main contact for the State Theatre’s education patrons. The primary responsibility of this entry-level position is intake and processing of orders for the theater’s school-day matinees, classes, workshops, and other education programs. Duties include disseminating correspondence and other information to education patrons; processing education sales; generating invoices, sales reports, and statistical information; assigning seats for school-day performances; administering follow-up program surveys; and maintaining the education database. The Education Assistant is also expected to promote the theater’s education programs through extensive and vigorous outreach to schools and other audiences. In addition, the Education Assistant provides general support to the State Theatre’s Education Department as needed.

Qualifications:
The qualified candidate for this position is extremely organized and attentive to detail, polite, articulate, and responsive in dealing with the public, and willing to work occasional evening hours as the position demands. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel, are a must; experience with Tessitura or other computerized ticketing system(s) is a definite plus. Candidates who can contribute energy, enthusiasm, and original ideas to the organization are especially encouraged to apply.

Assistant Ticket Office Manager:
State Theatre seeks to fill the open position of Assistant Ticket Office Manager immediately.

Requirements:
Requirements include (but are not limited to) extensive knowledge of daily ticket office operations/policies and assisting in Ticket Office management during business hours and/or performances and in the Ticket Office Manager's absence. Position functions as member of the Ticket Office front line as the face of the State Theatre and its first contact point for patrons. 


Responsibilities:
Daily responsibilities involve the coordination and calculation of the daily deposits, scheduling staff hours, staff training/motivation, tracking incoming ticket orders, processing ticket sales, and up keeping up the physical appearance of the ticket office and brochure racks. Also, this person will build performances, maintain the database, handle customer feedback, and work directly with rental organizations and State Theatre administration/production staff.
   

Qualifications:
Qualifications include excellent communication skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, strong computer knowledge, basic mathematical skills, and a highly motivated/positive attitude. Prior Ticket Office, knowledge of Tessitura ticketing software, and/or management experience is required. A desire to provide excellent customer service is essential. 
 

Compensation:
Compensation is commensurate with experience. Benefits include generous medical/dental coverage, paid vacation, and free parking. Position is year-round, full-time, and offers an optional 403 B retirement plan.

Box Office Sales Associate:
Duties:
A Box Office Sales Associate is the resource for information as well as the point of sale person on behalf of the State Theatre. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and performance details is essential in providing the desired level of customer service. The hours for this position will vary with the theatre’s schedule. Candidate must be available to regularly work days, evenings, and weekends. This is a great opportunity for full or part-time students, or those looking to begin a career in the arts industry. 

Qualifications: Candidate should possess excellent communication skills; attention to detail; a pleasant phone manner; general computer knowledge (Microsoft excel, word); basic mathematical skills; and a highly motivated and positive attitude. Prior Box Office or ticketing software experience is a plus.

Marketing/PR Internship:

The Marketing/PR intern will work closely with staff to implement marketing, promotions, public relations and audience development initiatives. The intern may also work on audience analysis, press database management, copywriting, editing, and other projects as needed. Internships are unpaid.

Development Internship:

The State Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey, one of the country’s foremost performing arts presenters, seeks an energetic and self-motivated college student with strong writing and interpersonal skills for a fall internship (2-3 days per week) with the development department of the State Theatre.

Responsibilities and duties include assistance in:

  1. Writing letters of inquiry, gift acknowledgements, and proposals;
  2. Researching individual, corporate and foundation prospects and donors;
  3. Coordinating various projects;
  4. Maintaining and updating contact lists.

Qualified candidates include those with a major in English, communications, public relations, marketing or related fields (although all majors interested in work experience may apply) and in good academic standing. Candidates must possess strong writing skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet is required.

This is a NON-paid internship, however, students may arrange to receive college credit. Additionally, interns will be compensated for expenses related to off-site responsibilities. The State Theatre offers a creative work environment and is an equal opportunity employer.

Education Internship:

Internships may focus on theater education management and/or assisting with the State Theatre’s Teaching Artist work in the classroom and on the stage. Interns will be able to acquire practical theater education experience at one of the premiere non-profit theaters in the region.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  1. Provide administrative support for Education staff, provide support for Teaching Artists during classes, Teacher Workshops and School Shows.
  2. Contribute to the development of the curriculum both in-house and in the schools.
  3. Opportunities to research possible grant/funding opportunities for theater education work.

REQUIREMENTS
• Strong commitment to theater and education
• Enjoy working with others—interns need to interact successfully with a wide range of personalities including staff, artists, volunteers, board members, donors, and the general public; on the phone and in person
• Demonstrate computer skills: familiarity with word processing, databases, and spreadsheets is preferable
• Commit to a consistent schedule for a minimum of one month

Programming Internship: 
 
Will work directly with the State Theatre Programming Manager on all aspects of booking, scheduling and contracting of artists who appear at the theatre. Good communication skills, MS Word and Excel literacy needed.  This is an ideal position for anyone considering a career in any aspect of arts administration or with a interest in the nuts and bolts workings of the touring entertainment industry.
